He's Beautiful (Hangul: 미남이시네요, Romanized: Minamishineyo, literally: He's a handsome man, early broadcast generally known: You're Beautiful ) is a South Korean drama about a fictional boy band A.N.Jell and the relationship between its members when a female, posing as her twin brother, joins the group. The series aired from October 7 to November 26, 2009 on the Korean network SBS. It starred Park Shin-hye, Jang Geun Suk, Lee Hong Ki and Jung Yong Hwa.
Go Mi Nyu (Park Shin Hye) is a sister in training, really dedicated to be soon sworn to be a nun. Her twin brother Go Mi Nam successfully auditions for the musical band A.N.JELL but is forced to leave for the United States to correct a botched plastic surgery. Mi Nyu is induced by Mi Nam's manager to act as Mi Nam while he recovers. She is against it at first but agrees in order to fulfill her dream of finding their mother. Now, posing as Mi Nam, Mi Nyu enters the group A.N.JELL and meets its members: Hwang Tae Kyung (Jang Geun Suk), Kang Shin Woo (Jung Yong Hwa) and Jeremy (Lee Hong Ki).
Go Mi Nyu, concealing her identity as Go Mi Nam, faces a lot of trouble with music band leader Tae Kyung, who was against her very existence from the beginning. Not enough trouble to get in, Kang Shin Woo realized her faking her identity. But lucky her, Kang Shin Woo turned out to be her secretly guarding angel in times of trouble. Tae Kyung, comes to realize it not long after Shin Woo. But Tae Kyung, act like his previous attitude towards her, hostile and unsupportive, yet the difference, Tae Kyung tells Go Mi Nam that he knows her secret identity. I bet you want to watch this drama now!! haha..^.^
Funny things happen as Tae Kyung acts ignorant to her, but at the end he tends to help her. Jeremy watching the weird relation between Tae Kyung with Mi Nam and Shin Woo with Mi Nam from behind,gets confused and suspicious of Tae Kyung and Shin Woo being too nice to Mi Nam. Jeremy was the only A.N.Jell's member not noticing her being a woman,till the last episodes. Though so, Jeremy falls in love with her "lady-like" beauty and simply irresistable sweet gestures...this drove him a little bit nuts contemplating his feelings for a woman he thinks is a man.
Finally, each of A.N.Jells member tries to win Go Mi Nam's heart..but even her choice to love someone is controversial because she will soon be sworn as a nun. And after she decided to love this person, she is also not sure what response she would get since she brought enough troubles already to A.N.Jell with a fake identity.
This drama is very special to me because it folds in together several different characters of the innocent,cheerful yet hard striving Go Mi Nam ;with Tae Kyung who is hostile, perfectionist, unwilling to show feelings and sorrow yet become warm and caring towards Go Mi Nam later on ; Shin Woo who does not reveal he figured out her secret yet trying to get to know her and protect her and asking her out secretly but always had to hold down his feelings and be patient and turned down by Go Mi Nam; Jeremy who is very cheerful and instinctively fell in love with Mi Nam. The scenes in this drama includes very lovely songs like Eodokkajyo (What should I do), Promise(Yaksok), Yojeonhi(Still/As Ever), My Heart's Cursing (Gasseumi Yokhae), Lovely Day, Without Words...all songs can be seen on youtube.. One unique thing is that I learned an old song out of watching this TV series, "Fly Me to the Moon" by Frank Sinatra first released in 1964,at the episode where Mi Nam picked this song for Tae Kyung to sing,after Tae Kyung said he would sing any kind of song for her ...ooh,how sweet ^.^
Because of this drama..I started to learn Korean in August 2010, to go there and play in a TV series with Jang Geun Suk, I am impressed by his acting... he is totally bringing up the character..Beside that, I also wrote down the original soundtracks and sung till I memorized some OST's lyrics..
In Indonesia, this romance comedy Korean Drama was broadcast in the second half semester of 2010 on Indosiar network channel. I am very delighted watching this drama...maybe this is also the public opinion of Asia, so that Japan even remade the drama in July 2011,named Ikemen desu ne. Every single star of You're Beautiful accepted award for their role in this drama.
Jang Geun Suk received the SBS Drama Awards(2009): Teens' Star Award (Actor) - You're Beautiful and SBS Drama Awards(2009): Netizens' Popularity Award - You're Beautiful. While Park Shin Hye, Lee Hong Ki and Jung Yong Hwa received the SBS Drama Awards(2009): New Star Award.
